MONEY & MARKETS • STOCK MARKET & INVESTING

The 10-year Treasury yield cracked 5% last week for the first time since it briefly touched there in October 2023. But 5.11%… that’s the highest sustained level since June 2007. The Fed hiked to 4% on September 16, and markets are already pricing a 70% chance of another hike in October. If you bought a 10-year note two years ago when it yielded around 3.7%, that bond has lost about 10 cents on every dollar of face value. The thing you owned because it was safe has been the most painful line in your portfolio all year.
