DHS just put out the new CBP numbers. 8,943. That’s how many people Border Patrol caught trying to cross the southern border in April — the entire month. To put it where you can feel it: at the December 2023 peak, agents were processing 336 crossings every single hour. They processed the same number in 27 hours then that they processed in 30 days now. DHS also marked twelve straight months of zero releases at the border. Total apprehensions for the entire fiscal year so far are below the average for a single month going back to 1992.
